Quarantine duty upon arrival in Norway [Expired]
Posted by Stein Kristiansen on 27 August 2020 08:16 AM

Dear business partners, customers and associates. At Indra Navia AS we are now preparing ourselves on welcoming customers from abroad to our premises. The below information is based on recommendations and duties given by the local Norwegian Authorities (Norwegian Institute of Public health) as of 5th of September 2020.

Anyone arriving in Norway from abroad shall be in quarantine for 10 days, with the exception of specified countries in Europe with sufficiently low transmission (see the map and table below).  The areas that are exempt from quarantine duty may change rapidly and the overview will be updated every 14 days, at least.

The map shows the areas with quarantine duty that apply for travelers arriving in Norway from 5th September 2020

The map shows the areas affected by quarantine upon arrival in Norway from the 22nd August 2020. The Government's advice is to avoid all non-essential travel abroad. Red colour = high transmission and quarantine is required upon arrival in Norway. Yellow = increased risk but quarantine not required upon arrival in Norway. Striped areas = not evaluated or insufficient data about transmission, quarantine is required. Illustration: Norwegian Institute of Public Health

If you arrive in Norway from:

  • a "yellow area", you are exempt from quarantine.
  • a "red area", quarantine is mandatory.
  • a "striped area", quarantine is also mandatory.  Striped areas are not evaluated or there are insufficient data about the infection burden. You must go into quarantine if you arrive in Norway from one of these areas.

The transmission situation in Europe can change rapidly, and before travelling abroad, take into account that there may be local outbreaks of COVID-19, or outbreaks may arise while you are away. Check the advice from the local authorities at your destination and what is covered by travel insurance, including what applies if you become ill while travelling.

What applies to non-nationals in quarantine duty?
Norway does not have a government controlled quarantine process for foreign nationals arriving in Norway. If you are not resident in Norway, but are subject to a quarantine obligation, you must, upon arrival in Norway, submit documentation of continuous residence at one and the same registered address in Norway for the first 10 days in the country. For stays shorter than 10 days, the documentation requirement applies for the entire period you are to be in the country. The documentation requirement does not apply to persons residing in Norway.

When arriving from a red area the following applies:
  • Keep wearing the face mask from your flight until you have reached home / place of residence.
  • You need to be in travel quarantine for 10 days from the day of your arrival to Norway.
  • You should stay at home or in another suitable place of residence.
  • You should not go to work, school or kindergarten while in travel quarantine, but you can work from home.
  • You should not use public transport.
  • You can go for a walk but keep a good distance to others.
  • You should make arrangements for others to help out with your grocery shopping or other necessary errands.
  • If you cannot make any such arrangements, you should visit the shop at times when only few others visit.
  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.
  • Pay close attention to any symptoms developing.
  • Take a test for the coronavirus if you develop any symptoms, see the Coronavirus Self-Checker (click ctrl-button and hold mouse pointer over self-Checker to follow link).
Violation of the quarantine duty is a criminal offence in Norway.
